FOND DU LAC, Wis. (April 22, 2009)—BCI Burke and Alliant Energy partnered to donate and plant a Celebration Maple to the City of Fond du Lac in honor of Earth Day.
The tree was planted Wednesday morning at Lakeside Park near the playground to give kids and parents shade while on the playground, said John O. Kiefer, park superintendent for the city of Fond du Lac parks division.
“To plant a tree is to plant the future, and this Celebration Maple will last a lifetime and beyond. It will provide shade for the equipment when children are playing. Kids can keep coming back year after year and watch as the tree grows with them,” Kiefer said
There are many simple ways people can care for the environment, said Dave Krug, strategic account manager for Alliant Energy, Fond du Lac Division.
“We welcomed the chance to partner with BCI Burke in the donation of the Celebration Maple. Both of our companies actively seek sustainable opportunities, and though planting a tree may seem minor, it is only one of the many ways that we show support for the environment,” Krug said.
Another sustainable opportunity BCI Burke is involved in is Alliant Energy's Second Nature™ Program, said Burke CEO, Tim Ahern.
"New processes, partnerships and investments helped us achieve the ISO 14001 Certification for environmentally sustainable operations. And our participating in the Alliant Energy Second Nature Program lets us purchase energy from renewable resources, such as wind, to offset approximately 12 percent of our electrical usage," Ahern said.
