BCI Burke is giving away 1 million dollars in grants to get kids moving in America.

FOND DU LAC, Wisc. (Jan. 22, 2009) – BCI Burke Company has announced the availability of up to $1 million in grants to help schools, park and recreation departments and other agencies fund new BCI Burke playgrounds and playground equipment. This will help fight childhood obesity by getting America’s children moving.

The playground manufacturer’s Economic Stimulus Program (ESP) is intended to stimulate the economy by helping agencies fund the playgrounds and expansion their children need.

“This program is in line with our national priority of investing in the nation’s infrastructure, and playgrounds are a part of that. This program will provide up to $1 million and help schools and parks throughout the nation obtain the playgrounds their children need and deserve,” said Tim Ahern, chief executive officer of BCI Burke.

The grants will be available for private schools and day care centers as well as public agencies, according to Ahern.

“New playgrounds also help private institutions compete and attract new students. The  ESP grants can help them accomplish this,” he said.

When a grant is awarded, the amount will be deducted from the cost of the playground or playground equipment. Amounts will be based on the value of equipment purchased. Applications must be received by April 23, 2009, and grants will be awarded no later than April 30.
