The fusion of the Burke Nucleus™ and Intensity® play systems is just one example of our tenacity to just keep getting better and better.
We are proud to feature the seamless integration of Nucleus, our traditional post and platform system, with a multitude of Intensity components, which provide a fitness focus to the play space. This bursts open exciting possibilities to design playgrounds for maximum space and capacity. The Burke revolutionary KoreKonnect® direct-bolt clamp system promotes the easy combination of any of the Nucleus and Intensity components.
The heart of the playground design is the all-new Viper Slides, where the multitude of thrilling, twisting and turning rides will never get old. Nearly 100 configuration options offer 6 different platform heights from 4 feet to a whopping 9 feet. Up to three Viper slides per platform-entrance saves space and allows more slides and more fun with fewer platforms. An exciting spinning component, the Fierce Cyclone amps up the play value, a multitude of overhead climbers boosts strength and endurance, and various covered platforms for kids to gather and catch their breath, are just a small glimpse of the array of options to provide limitless fun.

Voltage
3D-1708
At BCI Burke, we are constantly looking for ways of Reinventing Play™. And we have done it again with the all-new Voltage™ play system. expand+
It mimics our Nucleus playground that has 5-inch posts and the remarkable options it provides, yet this time our playground designers planned for 3-1/2 inch posts in the creation of Voltage. The result is even more impressive options for planning a one-of-a-kind playground that is as affordable as it is exhilarating. Voltage will challenge and exercise kid’s bodies while providing so much fun they won't want to go home.
This play system uses the exclusive KoreKonnect® direct-bolt clamp system and EZKonnect® self-leveling deck attachment system. Together, these provide the ultimate in strength, stability and ease of installation. The KoreKonnect system allows more components in the same amount of space and for traditional play events, such as slides, to now to be integrated into any design.

Fond du Lac YMCA
LB-1717
The Fond du Lac, WI YMCA (The “Y”) started with dreams of a total renovation in 2006, and the new state-of -the-art community center became reality with the start of construction three years later. expand+
With grass roots commitment to build a facility that would benefit families from far and wide, support and excitement for the project escalated and culminated in a summer 2010 ribbon cutting.
BCI Burke knew that this type of project was just the kind that they wanted to commit significant time, talent and resources to create. Burke became part of the planning process early on; advising, collaborating and planning for a dynamic play area that would support the needs of the children who visited the Y as well as the Boys and Girls Club, which offers programming in the newly constructed space.
“We are thrilled to be a part of this community center and play space where kids and their families can come to take part in healthy, safe and fun activities,” said Tim Ahern, BCI Burke owner/CEO. “In true Burke style, our playground designers went all-out to create an exceptional play area to maximize usage and amp enthusiasm of the kids.”
One hallmark of the project was custom designed surfacing using Burke Turf™. The prominent BCI Burke logo created in the turf met with rave reviews of “Y” visitors and members alike. The turf provides a rugged, durable, and safe option for park, recreation, and school playground needs. Burke Turf is also 100% polyethylene recyclable fiber that provides the remarkable softness of real grass. The rugged durability of the latest in turf technology makes it tough enough for high-use sports and playground areas.
Below the turf surface is a soft infill that is completely anti-microbial, to provide a lasting, healthy play environment. A shock and drainage pad supports the infill and provides shock absorption and impact protection from falls – the most common source of serious playground injuries. Burke Turf conforms to the latest CPSC, ASTM, and ADAAG standards for impact attenuation and accessibility.
The play value of the “Y” project is maximized with a vast array of both Little Buddies® and Burke Basics to intrigue and challenge kids for generations. It also features the all new Early Play Centers which include the Step ‘N’ Scoot, Climb ‘N’ Crawl, and Kiddy Korral. They encourage physical and cognitive growth while providing exploratory fun for children 6 – 23 months. All three designs are available in gentle, natural earth-tones or bold primary colors. Both the Step ‘N’ Scoot and Climb ‘N’ Crawl are available in soft or firm/stable play platforms.
Lakeside Park
3D-1462
When a seven-member team participating in a leadership program of the Fond du Lac (Wisconsin) Area Association of Commerce first identified the need for a special barrier-free playground in the area, they had no idea how enthusiastic the community would support the project. expand+
While there were many playgrounds in the area, the group was surprised to find that no public park in the entire county had a barrier-free playground that could be used by children with both physical and cognitive disabilities. Further investigation revealed that many local organizations had dreamed of building a truly accessible playground, however, the dream remained beyond reach until the leadership team rallied the community.
The vision began to take shape when discussions with city officials resulted in the donation of a plot of land in the expansive and picturesque Lakeside Park, located in the city on the shores of Lake Winnebago. BCI Burke was contacted immediately as they had designed and installed a multitude of other playgrounds in the 400-acre park and without delay a plan came together that produced a barrier-free playground that assured access for all children regardless of ability, and encouraged peer-to-peer relationships between disabled and non-disabled children. A mass of other organizations, businesses, and individuals enthusiastically joined in the playground.
The project inspired BCI Burke designers to create something special and the result was a barrier-free playground focused to the needs of children with various disabilities and their caregivers, as well as those who are able bodied. A wheelchair accessible ramp was included in the design to allow children who are wheelchair bound or that have other significant motor disabilities, to play freely. A special rubberized surface was a key part of the playground to allow easy access to those using wheelchairs, walkers, or crutches.
When the newly installed ribbon cutting ceremony was held, kids with all abilities clamored to try out the Centipede Climber, Satellite Climber, Wiggle Watch Tower, Paddle Ball Panel, and many other engaging components. The kids played and the community celebrated with overflowing pride, the wonderful achievement they had reached and that benefited the children with them that day, as well as many children of the future.
Optimist Park
NUIN-1463
The statement, "It takes a village" can apply to many aspects of society and is especially relevant to the birth of the Optimist Park playground. expand+
Youngsters from the area have a new playground to enjoy for years to come due to the collaboration of the Village of North Fond du Lac and donations from numerous bighearted area businesses, organizations and residents.
The exceptional playground that the Burke team custom designed for the beautiful tree-filled park space was the newly released Nucleus™. Burke created Nucleus specifically to build more variety into playgrounds, integrate traditional and fitness-oriented equipment, and make better use of limited playground space. Central to Nucleus is Burke's new KoreKonnect™ system, which uses a proprietary dual direct-bolt clamping system that allows customers to simply connect each platform to more components.
Nucleus is designed not only for strength and versatility, but also for ease of installation. The holes for the direct bolts are pre-drilled in the factory for precision, so park maintenance personnel don't have to worry about drilling them during installation and risking mistakes. During the community installation at Optimist Park, the playground came together much faster than others the team had assembled in the past.
Village decision makers were impressed with the fitness-oriented focus of the new play space citing concerns about the national surge in childhood obesity. They were encouraged by the innovation of the play components and how it challenges kids of all ages. Park planners also took note of the unprecedented Generations Warranty™ that Burke provides: Optimist Park play equipment is protected with a 100-year limited warranty against corrosion, deterioration, and workmanship covering the aluminum and steel posts, and all clamps, hardware, and bolt-through fastening systems.
The Village of North Fond du Lac provided site preparation materials, labor for planning and building the structure, and also coordinated the work. In addition, the village's park development fund was supplemented by financial contributions from area residents, organizations and businesses.
Fond du Lac
County Fairgrounds
NU-1464
BCI Burke couldn't wait to get one of their newly designed and built Nucleus™ playgrounds in the hands of some of the most important people in the world-kids. expand+
So, working with Fond du Lac County, they designed a remarkable system and installed it across town from their factory in the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds complex that includes a water park and various shelters for gathering. The new unit perfectly complimented the already existing play units and swings installed by the city over the years.
Nucleus allows Burke to build more variety into playgrounds, integrate traditional and fitness-oriented equipment, and make better use of limited playground space meets worldwide ASTM, CSA, EN 1176 and Australian safety standards, paving the way for Burke to offer its full line of playground components internationally.
Fitness-oriented playgrounds have made a significant impact with purchasers of playgrounds because of the surge in childhood obesity. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that among children between six and 11, the prevalence of obesity has shot up from 6.5 percent in the 1970s to 17 percent in 2003-2006.
The Nucleus structure was an immediate hit with neighborhood families and those gathering for events. A multitude of play events keep the kids busy for hours including the signature Kidforce Spinner, Tsunami slide, Spiral Slide, Pod Walk, and Satellite Climber, just to name a few.
Roy Gayle Park
NUIN-1465
When the decision makers of Roy Gayle Park were looking for the best play value, it was easy to conclude that a Burke Nucleus™ playground coupled with components of the Intensity® fitness play complex was the answer. expand+
BCI Burke representative Custom Playground, Inc. provided expert advice to maximize the space that was available. Park officials were initially hesitant that the blending of the newly released Nucleus with Intensity line might confuse the process; however concern quickly vanished when the design was created.
Nucleus was designed specifically in response to customer requests for a better way to integrate the fitness-oriented Intensity with the more traditional play systems built around posts and platforms. Nucleus provides the strongest and most versatile system Burke has ever offered and Roy Gayle Park was one of the first sites to reap the benefits of this historical product.
The greatest challenge was expertly fitting the play space between two baseball fields while ensuring maximum safety. Planning for future expansion of the play area was also a priority. The playground fit was a challenge, but the Burke design department provided their usual exceptional support using Burke's proprietary EZ Design program which made the job seem effortless.
The fusion of Burke's Nucleus and Intensity play systems provide a perfect mix for special needs kids who need transfer stations as well as the increased intensity for the more able-bodied kids. The kids who play on the space are given ample excitement and challenge with the Monster Plunge Slide being the big draw. Whether playing on the multitude of climbers: Vital Vortex, Power Pipes, Wild Web, or Strength Stepper; zooming down the Swift Glider; or engaging in one of the numerous other featured play events at Roy Gayle Pony Park, families have plenty of ways to help keep kids active and coming back for more.
King Arthur Park
3D-1466
When King Arthur Montessori Academy leaders in Texas began planning for a new child care and pre-school facility, one of the decisions that had to be made was what type of playground equipment would best serve their young clientele, ages 2-5. expand+
They teamed up with the playground experts at Child's Play to discuss and assess their requirements and quickly determined a Burke Series 3000 product was just what they needed.
The most important consideration was getting the best possible product that would last a long time and be supported by solid service over the years. The King Arthur team was impressed with the fact that Burke has been known for maintaining the highest quality standards and backing products with superior service since its inception in the 1920s. This combination of quality and service ensured them the lowest possible total cost of ownership and that their Burke playground will provide the best value for their dollar - today and long into the future.
As the planning continued, it was clear that another priority was to ensure the play system had a shade system so that the kids were protected from the intense Texas sun as well as ensure they could safely play after a rainstorm. Burke Turf™ artificial grass was added to provide optimal safety surface to protect the kids' small bodies. The turf also provided an appealing look to the finished play area. The results of the zealous planning were a spectacular play space that could accommodate 100 kids.
Since slides are always one of the favorite attractions at any playground, an array of slides was incorporated in the project including the Triple Rail, Plunge Chute, Quarter Turn, and Rock 'N Roll. Fun and challenging climbers were also an important priority for the planners, so plenty of those were infused into the plan. The playground was finished off with several accessory pieces such as the post mounted bell, animal panel, and steering wheel assembly.
As with every Burke playground, a complimentary Playground Supervision Safety Kit produced by the National Program for Playground Safety is provided, which includes an in-depth training manual outlining the ABC's of safe playground supervision and a video and CD-Rom to help train supervisory employees.
Highland Park
3D-1467
Worn out and splintered play equipment that became hazardous to the children of Highland Park United Methodist Church prompted the officials to research the best option for their young players, ages 2-5. expand+
BCI Burke representative Child's Play had worked with the group to install other playgrounds and the reviews were wildly positive. The decision makers of the church valued Burke's philosophy of our Total Cost of Ownership Package™ and their focus on premium quality, warranty and service. They wanted their playground to last for generations and not have to face a hassle if a service issue came up.
To provide a playground that developed the children's mental, physical and social being, the playground experts at Child's Play and church officials synergized their ideas into the perfect plan. Together they were able to make the playground an integral part of both the church and the child development center.
The result of the planning was play equipment constructed of an inviting mix of green, brown, and tan that blends into the church's landscaping yet is a play magnet for the young faithful. From the Rock Crawl to the Dynamic Pads and Drum Panel, and then onto the multitude of other play events, the playground brings rave reviews from the senior pastor, church staff, parents, and children alike. The artificial Burke Turf™ grass created the most buzz. Aside from making the playground site aesthetically pleasing all year through, the grass drains rapidly, and allows the children not only to run and play but also to comfortably lie down and look up at the sky and trees.
Like most projects of this scope, the installation did have challenges. Most notably, the entire project - from removing the old playground, digging out the wood chips, putting in the new equipment and placing all of the layers underneath the artificial turf - needed to be completed during a two week holiday break. Another obstacle to consider was the playground site had a unique shape with several trees that needed to be considered in the design. The Child's Play team was more than up to the challenge and everything was in place when the children returned to the playground.
Appletree Daycare
3D-1385
When business owner Carolyn Driggers opened Appletree Day Care in an existing building, she decided to use the back parking lot as the site for a new playground. expand+
But that posed certain challenges, requiring that parking lot be torn out and drainage installed.
She teamed up with Burke representative John Barrs, who stepped up to the challenge and helped figure out the logistics of the site before using Burke's proprietary EZ Design technology to produce a Series 3000 playground similar to a playground Driggers saw in a day care catalog.
"Carolyn knew what she wanted. We tore up the existing parking lot and fitted the site with proper drainage and turf to prevent pooling whenever it rains. Then we worked to create a playground that the kids would enjoy," said Barrs.
The result was a play area complete with three slides, a drum panel, a chime panel, an ABC panel, and a telescope with steering wheel. Plus, the Atom Climber and Coil Climber help the kids gain strength and increase balance. Now, the children have a fun, interactive area where their imaginations can run free!
North Topsail Elementary
3D-1415
North Topsail Elementary wanted to replace its playground with something that was durable and would last for decades. expand+
So the maintenance supervisor for the Pender County Board of Education decided to recommend Burke because of his previous experience with Burke playgrounds.
After seeing the Burke catalog with the Series 3000 playgrounds, the board decided to call Burke representative John Barrs to place the order. Within a month, the playground was manufactured, shipped and installed. When the crew came to put in the new playground, the installers realized that an old structure had not been removed with the rest of the playground. They adjusted their plans and worked around the structure to finish the playground.
When the playground installation was finished, the kids were happy to play on the structure, which has the Kid Koaster® Trolley, Wheel Deal, three slides, including the Monster SlideTM, and several climbers for kids to get onto the play structure.
St. Mary Magdalene
IN-1348
After purchasing several of Burke's freestanding events over the past few years, Bob Cadran, principal of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and School, wanted to replace the school's existing wooden playground with something edgy and different. expand+
So Burke representative John Barrs suggested the new fitness-oriented Intensity playground as a replacement.
While surveying the site for the new playground, Barrs realized that the area was set on a slope, surrounded by trees. And because there is a law in Apex that prohibits cutting down trees of a certain size, Barrs modified the plans to accommodate the slope and trees.
Burke's Intensity Fitness Play Complex, has rope climbers where kids increase their strength and stamina, Dynamic Discs that challenge kids to maintain their balance while stepping from one pad to the next, and the Swift Glider and Strength Stepper that kids can slide down and climb up.
Burke Backyard
IN-1410
For the ultimate in variety, flexibility and size, it's hard to beat a playground combining Intensity and our System 3000 component system. expand+
This playground features a wide variety of events designed to develop strength and agility. The rope-climbing events such as Nimble Net and Limber Ladder were especially popular with a class of fourth graders who visited the playground recently, according to Mrs. Chris Wuest, who teaches at Faces Elementary School in Fond du Lac.
"Our children loved the spinning and climbing events. There was also a rope between the two play sets that tested their balance and coordination. They enjoyed competing to see who could go the farthest," said Mrs. Wuest.
Each system provides a great deal of flexibility in its own right. Intensity playgrounds come in a number of configurations to suit specific needs, preferences, budgets and spaces. And our Series 3000 is designed to combine any of scores of events, including slides, tubes, climbers, bridges, rails, platforms, ramps, play panels and much more.
Together, Intensity and Series 3000 two provide a range of combinations limited only by the imagination. And of course, your Burke representative can help you create a playground ideally suited to your needs by using our proprietary EZ Design software.
Bear Creek Complex
IN-1416
Orlando has long been known as the recreation capital of the world, so it naturally was the perfect location for one of the first installations of BCI Burke's groundbreaking Intensity playground. expand+
The new playground was installed at Orange County's Bear Creek Recreation Complex. The new playground was an instant hit, according to Bear Creek supervisor Todd Melle.
"Almost every time I look out, I see 20 or so kids climbing and spinning on it," said Melle. "The community really jumped on this. It's really cool new stuff, and kids are just flocking to it," he said. The playground also has been attracting new patrons to the park, he said.
In keeping with BCI Burke's goals of 100 percent correct and on-time deliveries, the playground delivery and installation came off without a hitch. "I was amazed at how quickly and smoothly it went. Everything worked just like clockwork," Melle said.
Since the installation, the playground has become a showplace of sorts for Burke representative John Murphy, of Advanced Recreational Concepts, which serves Florida. "Other customers visit Bear Creek regularly, and it has helped many of them make better decisions regarding their own playground needs," he said.
Play by the Bay
NP-1339
When Collinson Associates, BCI Burke's representative in Brielle, NJ, worked with Sea Isle City Recreation Department on the details of the Play by the Bay project to maximize play value and make the playground dreams of area children come true, nothing was spared. expand+
The Sea Isle City project boasts New Jersey's largest, state-of-the-art sprawling playground with a huge assortment of swings, climbers, decks and slides that provides endless opportunities for play that will last for generations.
The playground incorporates Burke's whimsical "NaturePlay®" Tree House theme that complements the experience of its park location adjoining the bay. A half dozen elevated, hexagonal shaped platforms resemble large hollow tree trunks and serve as the focal point of a maze of structures interconnected by thematic ramps, walkways, ladders, steps, chutes and climbers of various sizes, designs and configurations. The design enables children to adventurously scramble, vault, climb, crawl, wriggle, swing, slide, and glide to their hearts' content.
Custom designed by Burke for the city, a few of the playground equipment's recreational highlights include three triple-slides and two curved slides, a rock climbing wall and rock crawl incline, tall spring-like coil climbers, tree climbers resembling desert cacti, cargo net and board ramp climbers and an assortment of other climbers comprised of coils, rings and rungs of varied forms. Then there is today's modern version of monkey bars, presenting the children with athletic challenges to move across the length of playground sections using diversely shaped overhead grips, along with educational panels prompting them to explore facets of the world around them.
While the emphasis of all the equipment is to stimulate creative thinking and to have fun, the construction of the playground is of equal importance. The playground is completely handicapped accessible, meeting or exceeding all American Disabilities Act and Consumer Product Safety Commission standards, as well as all International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association certification criteria.
It also is incredibly durable. Providing the best warranty in the industry, Sea Isle's Burke manufactured playground equipment comes with a 100-year limited warranty against corrosion, deterioration or workmanship covering the aluminum and steel posts, and all clamps, hardware and bolt through fastening systems. All steel components of the equipment received an electronically applied powder coating with special salt resistant additives and were assembled with stainless steel hardware to withstand the corrosive sea shore environment for decades. Structural plastic components are made of 1/4" thick double-wall high density plastics and the PVC coated steel decks comprising the playground platforms are designed to support as much as two tons. The equipment also comes with a maintenance kit providing Sea Isle with a customized maintenance manual and schedule, touch-up paint and graffiti remover.
As with every Burke playground, a complimentary Playground Supervision Safety Kit produced by the National Program for Playground Safety is provided, which includes an in-depth training manual outlining the ABC's of safe playground supervision and a video and CD-Rom to help train supervisory employees.
The Play By The Bay project is the pinnacle of all playgrounds in New Jersey. It proves the Burke commitment to manufacturing a superior product, integrity, honesty, respect, child safety and exceptional responsiveness before, during and long after the sale makes for an amazing playground that provides immeasurable play options for children and families.
Debusk Park
3D-1340
The city of Mesquite in Texas is very serious about giving their tax payers the highest quality product and an affordable price, that can be easily maintained. expand+
To city officials, best value practice is critical to the success of the city. To that end, they have developed a "Best Value Purchasing Matrix" to decide which vendor to use and product to purchase. Total cost of ownership, product quality, maintenance cost, warranty, and service after the sale are all key points they look at when making the important decision of purchasing playground equipment. The DeBusk Park project included an extensive demolition of the existing equipment, retaining wall, and concrete. Child's Play Inc. worked with the park planner to design the best playground for their space and budget. A new playground, retaining wall, picnic area, grass, irrigation concrete slab, and rubber surfacing were installed, giving the city the best overall value on the project and the children and families of Mesquite a new playground that will last for generations to come.
Celebration
Covenant Church
3D-1341
Celebration Covenant Church has an impressive reputation in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and is the fastest growing congregation. expand+
The planners of this playground were looking for a state-of-the-art playground to coincide with the progressive program that they offer to their children. Accommodating large numbers of children, split into two age groups at the same time, was also a top priority. Child's Play Inc. worked with the church to design this project with custom design meetings at the church along with multiple professionals at the Child's Play office. Using BCI Burke's unique EZ Design program was essential to the success of this project in order to make the number of changes which were needed to the design it in the required time frame. EZ-Design also made it easy to fit the playground to the specific space of the site. Due to the extreme heat in Texas the church officials felt shade was also critical for the safety of the children. They chose to go with shade attached to the structure for a more appealing look to the playground.
St. Agnes
Pre-K & Kindergarten
LB-1343
When designing St. Agnes day care, planners knew they needed to include a playground for the preschoolers. expand+
After looking at several playground companies, they called BCI Burke in the spring of 2007 to see if the playground manufacturer could help. They decided on Burke's Little Buddies® series, which offers a variety of activities for kids ages 2 to 5. When the facility opened in June 2007, the playground site included a toddler area, a Trike Track and a Pre-K/Kindergarten area.
For the older preschoolers who are about to start school, St. Agnes offers a Pre-K to Kindergarten playground. Kids can play in tunnels and in the Sand & Water Table or try the traditional swing set.
Kids climb on the Coil Climber, Loop Rung Ladder or Rock Crawl Climber to get up the play structure before deciding which one of the three slides they would like to slide down. After kids slide, numerous panels engage preschoolers. There's a Drum Panel, Chimes Panel as well as a Tree Drum Table for them to make music. The Paddle Ball Panel challenges them to figure out how to get balls through various sized holes while the Car Panel lets them use their imaginations to drive to distant places.
