Playground unveiled at Rio Hondo Community College, CA

FOND DU LAC, Wisc. April 10, 2012 –A flurry of laughing, cheering, bouncing children flocked to a new playground installed at Rio Hondo Community College Child Development Center in Whittier, California. The Center welcomed guests to a ribbon cutting ceremony recently to reveal the dynamic play space designed and installed by BCI Burke’s local professional representative, Innovative Playgrounds Company.

“We are honored to collaborate on this engaging playground project for the children of the students and employees of Rio Hondo College,” said Alvino Larios, Innovative President.  “In addition to providing unlimited fun play for the kids, these play areas will provide learning opportunities for the students of the college who study children from other programs such as child development, nursing, and social science,” he added.

The playground was funded by the Child Development Division of the California Department of Education.

Four play areas were created with custom equipment featuring Burke’s Voltage™ line that combines a durable and flexible post system with the advanced design of both the exclusive KoreKonnect® direct-bolt clamp system and EZKonnect® self-leveling deck system.

Frolicking children, and even some adults at the playground ceremony, tried out the many features including six slides, of which two are the innovative Viper Slide. Scaling, crossing, balancing and crawling on the multitude of climbers and maneuvering the activity panels, the play space reinforces classroom learning and promotes physical, mental, and social development.  A ShadePlay Canopy is included in one area to protect the youngster’s skin from the harmful effects of the sun.  Underfoot, the play area has Burke Turf™ Pro, a safety surfacing product that simulates natural grass and is remarkably soft.
