oxford building installBCI Burke Representative Completes Playground Install for Manhattan Condominium

Children living at The Oxford, a residential tower in New York City’s Upper East Side, now have a great new Burke playground to enjoy on their own building. The installation was completed by BCI Burke representative Empire Recreation, which covers the state of New York.
Giving kids a place to play several above Manhattan streets was no easy task. Concerns about the weights and loads exerted by the included 3-Bay Arch Swing proved to be the biggest challenge. BCI Burke Design Engineer Scott Liebelt worked with Empire Recreation and the building’s architect to design floor sills consisting of 3,000 pounds of steel plates and tubing to address the swing’s forces. All of this material, in addition to the custom Nucleus™ play system, had to be brought up to the tower’s parking deck roof by a crane from the crowded street level below, which was also on a New York City bus route.
Addressing these issues to deliver a great playground for the children of The Oxford was “a lot of fun,” according to Ed Miller, Jr., Owner of Empire Recreation. “Projects like this highlight our ability to overcome any issue or obstacle and deliver a complete project.”
