Helping Kids Stay Safe and Fit
Playground Safety Week and National Physical Fitness & Sports Month
 National Playground Safety Week 2011 was April 25-29, and we at BCI Burke were excited to work with Evans Elementary school in Wisconsin to raise awareness of playground safety. As part of the Fond du Lac School District’s Partners in Education (PIE) Program, Burke is leading the project in which Evans students created posters about playground safety. As part of our commitment to playground safety, BCI Burke partnered with the National Program for Playground Safety (NPPS) to provide a free Safe Playground Supervision Kit with each play system we sell.
Keeping the focus on healthy and safe play, every May since 1983 has been National Physical Fitness and Sports Month in the U.S. As part of our celebration of this important event, we are proud to release all new HealthQuest Fitness Stations to help individuals reach their personal fitness goals and encourage more physical activity. Other Burke products that encourage more physical activity include our Intensity® fitness play complex, Circuit Play® and Circuit Play® Beginnings.
Burke Selected as Head Start Body Start Preferred Vendor

Just a few weeks ago, the Head Start Body Start National Center for Physical Development and Outdoor Play announced its list of preferred vendors for the 2011 HSBS Preferred Vendor Catalog, and BCI Burke was selected!
The group of vendors have been vetted by a panel of early childhood movement professionals and selected for their offer of discounts and value-added packages of safe and developmentally appropriate products for recipients of the upcoming HSBS 2011 Play Space Grant Awards. Nearly $2 million in Play Space Grants will be awarded to Head Start Centers across the country this year by HSBS to improve their outdoor play spaces. Grant recipients will be able to purchase uniquely designed value-added packages created by the HSBS Preferred Vendors at a minimum discount of 20% off the retail price.

A Hands-On Approach to Selling Playgrounds: BCI Burke Teams Up With Summit Recreation
New Representative Firm for Montana, Wyoming & Colorado
When Kim and Scott Carlson launched Summit Recreation eight years ago, they meant business -- and play.
 “When we say we test our equipment, we mean that in the absolute most literal sense,” Scott Carlson said. “We literally get out on these playgrounds and get dirty, get sweaty, go down slides, test gliders – and we do this for our competition as well as for our own products.”
And that, in fact, is how Summit Recreation discovered BCI Burke Playgrounds. Now, their playground and recreational equipment company has partnered with BCI Burke to distribute Burke products in Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado.
“We’ve been testing Burke’s equipment for years from a competitor’s standpoint, which means that we know firsthand that their gliders and slides are the smoothest in the business, and that they carry a complete line of equipment, ranging from fitness to traditional and everything in between,” Carlson said.
And aside from his firsthand experiences on BCI Burke’s playgrounds, Carlson was also impressed with the company’s approach to marketing and sales.
“I’m really overwhelmed at how much Burke brings to the table with regard to marketing,” Scott said. “I honestly expect a great 2011 with BCI Burke behind us. I can’t say enough how excited we are to be on board with them.”
But the bottom line for the Carlson’s and for Summit Recreation, Scott says, is people.
