City of Rosenberg Announces Park Festivities Scheduled for April 20 & 24

ROSENBERG (April 14, 2010):  The City of Rosenberg will celebrate two important milestones during the coming days as it recognizes the completion of the new Space Rocket playground equipment at Sunset Park and the official opening of the Seabourne Creek Regional Sports Complex.  These projects represent significant City park improvements facilitated by the passage of a $2.5 million bond package by Rosenberg residents in 2006.

The first of the two events is scheduled for Tuesday, April 20, at 5:00 p.m., to mark the grand opening of the Space Rocket Playground at Sunset Park.  The playground equipment was designed and installed by outdoor recreational experts, T.F. Harper & Associates. The new playground is a modernized tribute to the original rocket which graced Sunset Park for many years.  The new Space Rocket play structure was custom-designed specifically for Rosenberg and is the first of its kind for T.F. Harper & Associates.  The firm will be hosting a “take-off” party and ribbon-cutting designed to showcase the new equipment and appeal to the “astronaut” in us all.  The opening of the new Rocket Playground marks the completion of playground improvements funded by the 2006 bond.  Other Rosenberg neighborhood parks that benefited from the bond funds for new playground equipment include Travis, Brazos, Community, and Garcia.  The City encourages residents to join in the celebration at Sunset Park on Tuesday, April 20, at 5:00 p.m.

On Saturday, April 24, with the help of local youth sports associations including the Rosenberg National Little League (RNLL), the Rosenberg Roughnecks Football Club (RRFC), and the National Fusion Soccer Club, the City will celebrate the official opening of the Seabourne Creek Regional Sports Complex.  The event will kick off at 8:00 a.m. with a parade of Little League players.  A flag-raising ceremony, including the Rosenberg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3903, will follow.  Afterwards, players will recite the Little League pledge and throw out the first pitch on the new fields.  The Honorable Mayor, Joe M. Gurecky, will dedicate the new complex with a commemorative plaque.

The festivities will continue after the official ceremonies are complete, and the Complex will remain open until 12:00 noon so that any interested members of the public can see all that the newest addition to the Rosenberg parks system has to offer.  Ronald McDonald and the Chick-fil-A Cow will also be on hand to help celebrate.  The City will host a Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run event for children ages 7 to 14 on the fields beginning at 9:00 a.m., and the Gulf Coast Outlaws, a semi-pro football team that is part of the Walton Youth Foundation, will have players running mini-activities and games for interested children on the flex football-soccer field beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The completion of the first phase of the Seabourne Creek Regional Sports Complex would not have been possible without the cooperative efforts of many community organizations, businesses and individuals.  The majority of the initial construction was funded through bonds, but additional contributions have significantly enhanced the Complex by adding field lighting (funded by the Rosenberg Development Corporation), a concession stand facility (donated by Joe and Doris Gurecky through RNLL), electronic scoreboards for each field (funded by a private donor through RNLL), a flag pole (made possible by a contribution of the Rosenberg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3903 through RNLL), picnic tables (donated by Rosenberg Rotary), and new trees (donated by Landscape Direct).

The new Regional Sports Complex will serve as a source of pride for Rosenberg and will be an integral part of Seabourne Creek Park, providing a resource for the enjoyment of residents both young and old.  The Complex will also be a showcase to groups beyond Rosenberg.

Interested members of the public are encouraged to join in the celebration on Saturday, April 24, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  The Sports Complex should be accessed from the new entry road off of Fountains Drive which is just off the US 59 north-bound access road between SH 36 and FM 2218.
