Guidelines for Selecting the Best Surfacing for Your Playground

A Burke playground is not complete without the proper surfacing.  Selecting , installing and maintaining appropriate playground surfacing are key characteristics in reducing playground injuries. 

Why is Surfacing Important? -  70 % of all playground injuries are related to falls to the surface. 

How Much Fall Protection is Needed? - There are four concerns to consider when selecting surfacing:  Coverage in Use Zone, Depth of Materials, Height of Equipment and Suitable Materials.

How Will Accessibileity be Provided? - All public playgrounds must meet ADA guidelines. 

What are the Maintenance Requirements? - Depending on the surface materials, maintenance cost and needs vary.

How Much Will it Cost? - Depending on the surface materials, costs vary.
