BCI Burke promotes cycling for kids during downtown Tour of America’s Dairyland Gran Prix

FOND DU LAC, Wisc. June 14, 2010 – Youngsters of all ages are invited to join cycling activities being planned  in conjunction with the Tour of America’s Dairyland (ToAD) Gran Prix of Cycling in downtown Fond du Lac on June 25. BCI Burke is sponsoring the free bike parade and race for kids that will begin at 4 p.m.

“We are thrilled to be a part of this event that promotes health and fitness for kids,” said Tim Ahern, owner/CEO of BCI Burke.  “ToAD and all of the associated activities is a perfect way to introduce kids and families to the fun and excitement of bicycling,” he added.

Organizers encourage kids of all ages—whether experienced racers or still on training wheels—to compete in the .18 mile course at the intersection of 2nd and Main Streets.  All races will finish in front of the main stage. Race categories include ages 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, and 12-13. Treat bags will be given to the first 150 kids to register compliments of Agnesian Healthcare, BCI Burke, Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac, Dental Associates, Fond du Lac Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Fond du Lac Cyclery. The top competitors in each category will receive a $50 savings bond from National Exchange Bank and Trust.

Bike helmets are required for all kids participating in activities.  Parents and guardians must be present at registration as well as the parade and races.

Advanced registration is strongly recommended either by visiting the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac, 51 Sheboygan Street or contacting the museum at 920-929-0707 or www.childrensmuseumfdl.org.    On-site registration on race day will also be available beginning a 4 p.m. at the intersection of 2nd and Main Streets in downtown Fond du Lac.

The kid’s activities will be followed by a final ToAD race and the popular band Road Trip will entertain in the evening.

The Fond du Lac Cycling Gran Prix; part of ToAD, will feature professional level races from 11:20 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. downtown.  This race is part of an eleven day tour that will travel throughout Wisconsin in June.  For more information about ToAD visit www.tourofamericasdairyland.com.
